Generator

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.

Removing

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Drain coolant.

- Move lock carrier to service position. Radiator Support

- Remove the front engine cover - arrow 1 - and - arrow 2 -.





- Remove screws - arrows -.





- Remove air guides - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Disconnect vacuum line - 2 -.





- Disconnect connector - 1 - for mass airflow sensor (G70).

- Remove air guide hose, to do so release hose clamp - 3 - and open clips - arrows -.

- Open clips - arrows - and remove upper air filter housing.





- Disconnect vacuum line - 1 -.





- Remove pin of expanding clip - 4 -.

- Remove lower air filter housing and disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at rear from intake air switch-over valve (N335).

- Remove hose - 3 - to Secondary Air Injection pump.

- Remove lower air filter housing.

- With air suspension: remove the bracket and air supply assembly.

- Remove bolt - 2 - and remove bracket.





- Pull water pipes out of generator.

- Disconnect electrical wires - 1 - and - 3 - from generator.

CAUTION!
Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.

• Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.

- Loosen clamping bolt - arrow - and remove ribbed belt.





- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove tensioner roller.





- Remove bolts - arrows -.





• If generator is stuck in its bracket, screw in mounting bolts again except 2 rotations.

• Carefully strike on bolt heads using flat side of hammer - doing this loosens sleeves of generator mount.

- Remove generator.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

• Secure all hose connections using standard hose clamps.

• Replace O-ring

- Slightly drive back sleeves for retaining bolts in order for easier installation of generator.

• Tight sleeves for generator mount must be made smooth-running, otherwise clamping force of sleeve is too little despite correct torque.

- Place ribbed belt - 2 - over belt pulleys in the specified sequence.

4 Vibration damper
5 Tension roller

• When installing ribbed belt, be sure that it is seated correctly on belt pulleys.

- Install lock carrier with attachments.

- With air suspension: install the bracket and air supply assembly.

- Connect battery. Required actions => [ Vehicles with : ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Fill coolant.

- Start engine and check belt routing.

Tightening Specifications
