Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Starter

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

• Shackles (10 - 222 A /12)

• Insert Pad For Front Fender (T40045)

Removing

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove rear engine cover - arrows -.





- Disconnect vacuum line - 2 -.





- Disconnect connector - 1 - for mass air flow sensor (G70).

- Remove air guide hose, to do so release hose clamp - 3 - and open clips - arrows -.

- Secure (10 - 222 A /12) at right rear engine lifting eye.





• Disregard - 1 -.

- Remove the rubber seal on the bolted fender edges.





- To avoid damage to the fender edges when using (T40045) on both sides between fender bolt edge and web plate lying beneath - arrows -.

- Position (10 - 222 A) on bolted fender edges. Spindle must point toward front.





- Engage the (10 - 222 A /12) at (10 - 222 A) spindles.

- Carefully attach spindle of engine support bridge.

CAUTION!
Spindles of (10 - 222 A) must not be pretensioned, otherwise fenders could be damaged.

- Remove right front wheel.

• Secure brake disc with a wheel bolt.

- Loosen the fasteners - 1 and 2 - and - arrow -, and remove the noise insulation, if equipped.





- Remove right drive axle heat shield - 1 -.





- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - at stabilizer mounts.





- Remove nut - 3 -.





- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and remove right engine bracket.

- Disconnect electrical connector - 1 -.





- Remove bolts - arrows -.

- Remove right engine support with engine mount.

- Remove ground (GND) cable - 1 -.





- Remove electrical wires - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Remove bolts - 2 - and - 5 - and remove starter.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Install engine console and tighten subframe.

- Install stabilizer.

- Connect battery. Required actions => [ Vehicles with : ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
