Engine Timing Cover(s) - Installation

INSTALLATION

Special Tools:










1. Clean the engine timing cover and engine block surface.

NOTE: Always install a new gasket when servicing the engine timing cover.

2. Verify that the engine timing cover slide bushings (1) remain located in the engine timing cover.





3. Using a new gasket, install the engine timing cover and tighten the retaining bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).

NOTE: The large lifting stud is torqued to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).

4. Tighten the large lifting stud to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).





5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Install the oil pump pickup tube (2) and the oil pan Engine Oil Pan - Installation.
7. Install the lower radiator hose and clamp.

CAUTION: The Damper Installer is assembled in a specific sequence. Failure to assemble this tool in this sequence may result in tool failure and severe damage to either the tool or the crankshaft.





8. Assemble the Damper Installer (2) as follows:
1. Install the nut onto the threaded shaft.
2. Install the roller bearing onto the threaded shaft making sure the hardened bearing surface is facing the nut.
3. Install the pressing cup (2) from the A/C Hub Installer onto the threaded shaft.
4. Coat the threaded shaft with MOPAR(R) Nickel Anti-Seize or equivalent.

CAUTION: To prevent severe damage to the crankshaft Damper Installer , thoroughly clean the damper bore and the crankshaft nose before installing damper.





9. Position the crankshaft damper (1) onto the crankshaft.
10. Using the crankshaft Damper Installer (3) and the pressing cup (2) from A/C Hub Installer , press the crankshaft damper (1) onto the crankshaft.
11. Install the crankshaft damper bolt and tighten to 176 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).





12. Position the belly pan and install the belly pan retainers (1).
13. Lower the vehicle.





14. Position the power steering pump, align the pump (1) with the mounting holes on the engine.
15. Install the three power steering pump mounting bolts (2) through access holes in the pulley (3) and tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the generator Generator - Installation.
17. Install the A/C compressor A/C Compressor - Installation.
18. Install the A/C condenser A/C Condenser - Installation.
19. Install the radiator Engine Cooling Radiator - Installation.





20. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner assembly (8) and idler pulley (6).
21. Install the accessory drive belt (2) Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Installation.
22. Install the oil dipstick tube and retaining nut.





23. Connect the camshaft position sensor electrical connector (1).





24. Install the heater tube (3) into of the water pump.
25. Install the heater tube retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).
26. Connect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector (2).





27. Install the oil cooler hose (4) and clamp (3).
28. Install the upper radiator hose (2) and clamp (1).





29. Install the intake manifold Intake Manifold - Installation.
30. Fill the cooling system with the specified type and amount of engine coolant Service and Repair.
31. Fill the crankcase with the specified type and amount of engine oil Service and Repair.





32. Connect the negative battery cable (1).





33. Install the engine covers (1).
34. Perform the Refrigerant System Charge procedure Refrigerant System Charge.
35. Start the engine and check for leaks.
