Inspection Procedure P-5

INSPECTION PROCEDURE P-5: ETACS-ECU does not receive any signal from the glass hatch latch.

Glass Hatch Latch Input Circuit Part 1:

Glass Hatch Latch Input Circuit Part 2:

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates the following functions or systems according to signal from the glass hatch latch:
- Door ajar warning buzzer
- Keyless entry system
- Timed locking mechanism
- Rear wiper
- Dome light
- Interior light automatic shutoff function
- Door ajar indicator
- Theft-alarm system
- Liftgate
- Glass hatch

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the signal is not normal, the functions or systems described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" do not work normally. If the signal is not normal, the glass hatch latch or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- The glass hatch latch may be defective
- The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
- The ETACS-ECU may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tool:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- MB992006: Extra Fine Probe

STEP 1. Check glass hatch latch connector F-08 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q: Is glass hatch latch connector F-08 in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 2.

NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the glass hatch latch should be normal.

STEP 2. Check the glass hatch latch.
Remove the glass hatch latch. Refer to Body, Window Glass, Glass Hatch. Then check continuity between the glass hatch latch terminals and the body ground.

Q: Is the glass hatch latch in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 3.

NO: Replace the glass hatch latch. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the glass hatch latch should be normal.

STEP 3. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-218 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-218 in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 4.

NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the glass hatch latch should be normal.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness between glass hatch latch connector F-08 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-218 (terminal 52).

NOTE: Also check intermediate connectors C-30 and F-02 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connectors C-30 or F-02 are damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.

Q: Is the wiring harness between glass hatch latch connector F-08 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-218 (terminal 52) in good condition?

YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. When the ETACS-ECU is replaced, register the encrypted code. Refer to Encrypted Code Registration Criteria Table in Antitheft and Alarm Systems. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the glass hatch latch should be normal.

NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the glass hatch latch should be normal.
