Battery Tray

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Risk of injury. Observe the warnings and safety precautions. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions!

Removing

- Remove the battery. Refer to => [ Battery ] Battery.

Vehicles with 2.0 L diesel engines

- Remove the air filter housing.

Vehicles with 2.5 liter gasoline engines

- Remove the hydraulic fluid reservoir - 4 - from the bracket.

Vehicles with 2.5 liter gasoline engine and automatic transmission

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the transmission control module (J217) - 2 -.






- Remove the transmission control module - 2 - from the bracket - 3 -.

Continued For All Vehicles

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the battery tray - 1 -.






Installing

If the battery is not secured properly, the following risks are possible:

• Shortened battery service life due to vibration damage (explosion hazard).

• If the battery is not secured properly, the plates inside the battery can get damaged.

• Damage to battery casing caused by bracket (possible electrolyte leakage, high subsequent costs).

• Inadequate crash safety.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the bolts on the battery tray and the bracket to 10 Nm.

- Tighten all the other threaded connections to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.
