Checking the canister purge (CP) valve
- Remove the canister purge (CP) valve, see Replacing the canister purge (CP) valve Removal and Replacement
- Disconnect the hose connections
- Connect vacuum pump 999 5843 VACUUM PUMP AT 999 5843 Vacuum Pump AT to point B.
During pumping the vacuum meter should register under pressure. The pressure quickly returns to atmospheric pressure but during pumping a clear resistance should be felt. Air is admitted in pulses (audible) via the other connection A.
Is air admitted?
- Yes: Checking the canister purge (CP) valve
- No: Defective canister purge (CP) valve

- Connect vacuum pump 999 5843 VACUUM PUMP AT 999 5843 Vacuum Pump AT to point A.
Is there a vacuum?
- Yes: Constant vacuum
- No: Defective canister purge (CP) valve
Defective canister purge (CP) valve
Replace the canister purge (CP) valve, see Replacing the canister purge (CP) valve Removal and Replacement.
Constant vacuum
- Connect the positive and negative power cables to the canister purge (CP) valve connection.
The vacuum should reduce. Replace the valve if it is not functioning correctly, see Replacing the canister purge (CP) valve Removal and Replacement.
