SUBJECT: CRUISE CONTROL SURGE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 SKYHAWK WITH 2.0L ENGINE (VIN CODE P), AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND CRUISE CONTROL

CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM:




Some 1983 Skyhawks with automatic transmissions may exhibit a surging (fluctuation) of vehicle speed while operating in the cruise control mode. This condition is most evident on downhill grades. To service vehicles with this condition, order service package, P/N 14093396. This package contains a new throttle body unit that incorporates a repositioned cruise control stud (see Illustration #1).

Service package, P/N 14093396, contains the following:

^ R.P.D. service kit, P/N 17111354, contains:

- P/N 17080987 - Throttle Body
- P/N 17075286 - Fuel Return Nut
- P/N 17110370 - Gasket Set

^ P/N 14077264 - Fuel Feed Line

^ P/N 14072762 - Fuel Feed Bolt

^ P/N 14077268 - Fuel Feed O-Ring Washers (2 required)

^ P/N 25031120 - Cruise Control Servo

^ P/N 14093387 - Cruise Control Cable

TORQUE SPECIFICATION:




IMPORTANT: Do not reuse the fuel feed line, fuel return nut, fuel feed bolt, gaskets or washers that were removed from the vehicle. Use the new parts included with the service package. Tighten the fuel feed bolt to 29 N-m (21 ft.lbs.) as shown in Illustration #2.
Refer to the service manual for proper installation of the throttle body unit, cruise control servo, and cruise control cable.
