CENTER SKID PLATE:

A front end noise has been noted on some 1985 Impala and Caprices. This noise occurs when driving over bumps, turning or stopping.

In 1985 a center skid plate was added to the front bumper reinforcement. This plate, if improperly adjusted, may contact the hood latch support causing a metal-to-metal noise.

This condition can be repaired by adjusting the center skid plate so that a clearance of 7.6 mm + 2.5 mm (19/64 + 3/32) is achieved to the hood latch support.
