With Manual A/C

Engine warm and running in idle. A/C Mode Selector Switch at OFF.
1. Put Mode Selector Switch in the MAX position.

^ A click can be heard when clutch engages.
^ Move Mode Selector Switch between OFF and MAX several times verify that clutch engages in the MAX position. Clutch plate movement can be seen on the front of the compressor pulley.
^ If clutch does not engage proceed to step 3.

2. With Mode Selector Switch in MAX and clutch engaged.

^ Check that engine cooling fan runs when compressor is engaged.
^ Check that air moves freely through the condenser.
^ Feel the suction (cold) and output (hot) pipes of the compressor. If there is not a wide temperature difference after the compressor has run for several seconds.

3. Turn off Ignition Switch.

^ Check refrigerant pressure at the low side service fitting.
^ If pressure is less that 172 kPa (25 psi).
^ If refrigerant pressure is higher than 172 kPa (25 psi) isolate condition using procedures in System Diagnosis.
