Service Procedure
THIS PROCEDURE INVOLVES WORKING NEAR THE ELECTRONICCLUSTER. ADEQUATE PRECAUTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AVOID ANY ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE, (ESD) WHICH MAY DAMAGE THE CLUSTER.
1. REMOVE THE I/P CLUSTER TRIM PLATE
- Pull off headlamp switch knob.
- Move the steering wheel to it's lowest position and telescope it all the way out.
- Remove the tilt lever from the column
- Unscrew the eight (8) screws holding the trim plate and remove it.
2. REMOVE THE I/P ACCESSORY TRIM PLATE
- Four (4) screws hold it on.
3. REMOVE THE I/P UPPER TRIM PAD. (Care must be taken when handling this pad to avoid damage to it.)
- Remove three (3) screws above the cluster.
- Remove the two (2) screws above the center display.
- Remove the fuse box cover and the right hand I/P trim plate.
- Remove the I/P pad screw located above the fuse box.
- Remove the two (2) screws from the defroster duct.
- Pull the I/P pad rearward and up to remove it. (If the car has speakers mounted on the pad the wires must be removed first.)
WHEN REASSEMBLING THE I/P PAD BE SURE TO LINE UP ALL OF THE HOLES AND NUTS. FAILURE TO DO THIS COULD CAUSE A NOISE CONDITION TO EXIST.
DO NOT OVERTORQUE THE SCREWS AT THE DEFROSTER DUCT WHEN REINSTALLING.
4. REMOVE THE TOP TWO SCREWS FROM THE I/P CENTER TRIM PAD ASSEMBLY AND TILT IT FORWARD.
5. REMOVE THE VATS MODULE. (2 SCREWS)
6. INSTALL THE NEW VATS MODULE AND REVERSE THE ABOVE PROCEDURE TO REASSEMBLE THE VEHICLE.
7. CUT THE THREE KEYS SUPPLIED TO MATCH THE IGNITION KEY ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED WITH THE VEHICLE.
8. RAISE HOOD. INSTALL CAMPAIGN COMPLETION LABEL. CLOSE HOOD.
9. START THE VEHICLE TO INSURE THAT THE SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY.
10. DISCARD ORIGINAL IGNITION KEY (S) TO AVOID FUTURE MIX-UP.
