Subject: CAMARO CONVERTIBLE TOP DIFFICULT TO LATCH TO WINDSHIELD
Model and Year: 1987-88 CAMARO CONVERTIBLE
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Some 1987-88 Camaro Convertible tops may be difficult to latch to the windshield header because the side roof rails may not properly engage into the isolator clips located on the leading edge of the rear roof rail.
FIGURE 1:
Inspect - (Figure 1)
- The rear end engagement of the side roof rail (2) into the isolator clip (1) on the rear roof rail.
- If the side roof rail (2) does not engage into the isolator clip (1) completely, the top auger latches will not align to the windshield header receivers.
To repair this condition, remove the isolator clip (1) from the rear roof rail and reattach it to the rear end of the side roof rail.
Remove and Disconnect
1. Lower convertible top halfway.
2. Using a 1/8" (3.2 mm) drill bit, drill out the rivets securing the isolator clip (1) to the rear roof rail (Right and Left Sides).
3. Isolator clips (1) from bows.
Install and Connect
4. In each isolator clip (1) (View B) drill a hole with a 1/8" drill bit in the inside lip of the clip to allow attachment with a rivet, as shown.
5. Position isolator clips (1) to the side roof rail (2) ends, Mark the location of the new holes on the side rails.
6. Using a 1/8" drill bit make a hole where marked on the side rail.
7. Rivet isolator clip(s) to side rail(s). Use a 1/8" x 1/2" aluminum rivet (3).
Inspect
8. Raise top to windshield header to see that:
- Side rails are engaging into the rear roof rail.
- Top auger latches align to the windshield header receivers.
