Torque Converter Shudder/Chuggle on TCC Apply (Replace Torque Converter)

1994 Chevrolet Camaro
1994 Pontiac Firebird
with 3.4L Engine (VIN S - RPO L32) and HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E (RPO M30)





Condition (Figure 1)

Some owners of the listed vehicles, built before February 1, 1994 may comment an audible driveline disturbance which can be heard and felt in the rear of the vehicle while in fourth gear when the Torque Converter Clutch engages or disengages.

This condition can be duplicated when the vehicle is up to operating temperature and driven in fourth gear. Take your foot off the accelerator and you will feel it and hear it. If you reapply the accelerator, you will hear it and feel it again only louder. This condition does not occur when TCC is fully locked.

Cause

Inadequate dampening of the torque converter clutch and/or degraded TCC friction material.

Correction

Replace the Torque Converter
