Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Open the radiator drain cock. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator to a level below the thermostat.
^ Tighten the radiator drain cock to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).





2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
3. Remove the serpentine drive belt.





4. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water pump.





5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
6. Remove the water pump pulley.





7. Remove the water pump bolts (1).
8. Remove the water pump (2).
9. Remove the water pump gasket (3).
10. Clean all of the gasket mating surfaces, including the water pump bolts.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J36660 Torque Angle Meter





1. Install a new water pump gasket (3).
2. Install the water pump (2).
3. Install the water pump bolts (1).
^ Tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 80 degrees using the J36660.





4. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the water pump.
5. Install the water pump pulley.





6. Install the water pump pulley bolts.
^ Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
7. Install the serpentine drive belt.
8. Add the engine coolant.
9. Start the engine. After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, check for coolant leaks.
