Special Equipment Option (SEO) Vehicles (RPO 9C3, 9C6)

The key detection circuits of the theft deterrent module are shorted together with a jumper wire on SEO equipped vehicles.

Since the key Detection Circuits are shorted together the resistor sensing contacts in the ignition lock cylinder and the resistor pellet on the ignition key are eliminated.

In other words. The jumper wire replaces the key detection circuit normally found on non SEO equipped vehicles.

When the theft deterrent module is turned ON for the first time. It stores permanently the first resistor pellet code read across the key detection circuits. However, the theft deterrent module stays unprogrammed because the jumper wire provides continuity ( no resistances across the key detection circuits.)

An unprogrammed theft deterrent module performs the following actions:
^ Enables the theft deterrent relay, thus enabling the starter circuit.
^ Sends a password to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the fuel enable signal circuit to enable fuel delivery to the engine.

SEO equipped vehicles do not have a SECURITY indicator in the instrument cluster.

For diagnostic purposes, the theft deterrent module output to the SECURITY indicator is sent the Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal 8. Connecting a test lamp between DLC terminal 8 and voltage (B+) simulates the status of the SECURITY indicator.
