Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair




Park Brake Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Release the parking brake.
2. Remove the parking brake/gearshift console hood. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor Console Replacement - Front Floor in Interior Trim.
3. Measure the thread length from the end of the pull rod to the hex nut and remove the nut.




4. Remove the parking brake cable ends from the parking brake cable rod and remove the parking brake cable rod.




5. Remove the parking brake cable from the rear backing plate assembly. Refer to Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement - Rear Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.




6. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the parking brake cable to the holding brackets, attached to the underbody near the fuel tank.




7. Remove the parking brake cable.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the parking brake cable to the rear backing plate assembly. Refer to Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement - Rear Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.




2. Install the nuts and bolts securing the parking brake cable to the holding brackets, attached to the underbody near the fuel tank.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the parking brake cable.

Tighten the parking brake cable bracket securing bolts and nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).




4. Install the parking brake cable rod and the parking brake cable ends.




5. Install the parking brake adjustment nut to the eye bolt pull rod of the parking brake lever assembly. Ensure to inspect the parking brake adjustment by referring to the original removal adjustment nut measurement taken in the removal procedure. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment Adjustments.
6. Install the parking brake/gearshift console hood. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor Console Replacement - Front Floor in Interior Trim.
