The 1983-1/2 Dodge Shelby Charger has certain unique features which will be outlined in this bulletin. For information not covered in this bulletin refer to Electrical and Engine Performance Service Manual #81-270-3004 and Chassis-Body Service Manual #81-270-3033.
All part numbers released for this car have been included in the latest parts "fiche."
GROUP 2 FRONT AXLE
Vehicle height has been lowered by .6" nominal + or - .4" compared to the standard Charger. Components used to accomplish this "Sport Suspension" are listed below:
^ Front Springs (145 in.lbs.)
^ Front Jounce Bumpers
^ Front Shock Absorber Struts
^ Rear Springs (135 in.lbs.)
^ Rear Jounce Bumpers
^ Rear Shock Absorbers
^ + .3 Nominal, + .7 to - 2.0 Camber (front)
GROUP 5 BRAKES
The brake system on the Shelby Charger consists of larger components than on the standard Charger. The components are listed below:
^ Front Calipers - same as LeBaron and 400 models.
^ Front Vented Discs - same as LeBaron and 400 models.
^ Rear Brake Assemblies - same as LeBaron and 400 models except with 9/16" wheel cylinder.
GROUP 8 ELECTRICAL
Electrical component changes include the following:
^ RN9YC optional spark plugs recommended for sustained high speed operation.
^ Air conditioning relay with timer to delay air conditioning clutch operation between wide open throttle shifts.
^ Headlamp and instrument panel wiring harness.
^ Wide open throttle time delay overlay harness.
^ Electronic spark advance/electronic fuel control computer with knock sensor.

GROUP 9 ENGINE
Engine features are as follows:
^ Chrome valve cover.
^ Short engine assembly (high performance). 9.6:1 + or - .5 nominal compression ratio (premium fuel recommended).
^ Heavy duty valve springs.
^ Rephased valve timing.
GROUP 11 EXHAUST
The Shelby Charger has a low restriction exhaust system with chrome outlet tip.
GROUP 14 FUEL SYSTEM
Components for the fuel system include:
^ Oxygen feedback carburetor with richer wide open throttle fuel mixture.
^ Accelerator pedal and bracket.
GROUP 19 STEERING
Steering features include:
^ 14 to 1 ratio, power rack and pinion.
^ High volume flow pump for 14 to 1 steering gear.
^ Steering knuckles.
GROUP 21 TRANSAXLE
^ Five-speed manual with 2.78 axle ratio.
^ Cast iron 1-2 shift fork.
^ Close tolerance synchronizer rings.
^ 21-tooth speedometer pinion drive gear.
GROUP 22 WHEELS & TIRES
^ 15" x 6" cast aluminum wheels.
^ 195/50/R15 raised black letter (RBL) Goodyear tires.
