A/C DISCHARGE HOSE RETAINING CLIP
Information
On some 1984 6-cylinder Eagles with air conditioning, a clip that retains the A/C discharge hose to the upper part of the radiator support may not have been installed.
The clip prevents undue stress on the condenser fitting from engine/hose vibration and locates the discharge hose away from the compressor belt and pulley.
While performing other engine compartment services, check the hose and, if necessary, install a retaining clip as follows.
NOTE: When replacing the A/C condenser on a 1984 Eagle, be sure to install a hose clip if one was not installed originally.
HOSE RETAINING CLIP ASSEMBLY:
Procedure
1. Remove and discard the passenger side radiator upper attaching screw.
2. Loosen the passenger side fan shroud upper attaching screw.
3. Install retaining clip 8983 501 154 on the A/C discharge hose tube (see illustration).
4. Insert the clip end between the fan shroud and radiator mounting flange. Secure the clip and radiator flange to the radiator support with washer G 120393 and screw 4003556 (see illustration). Do not tighten the screw completely at this time.
CAUTION: Do not bend the discharge hose and do not flex or apply pressure to the condenser fitting during clip installation. The condenser fitting weld joint could be damaged if undue pressure is applied. The clip must also be positioned as shown in the illustration to avoid pressure on the condenser fitting weld joint.
5. Check clearance between the discharge hose and the A/C compressor belt. Clearance must be minimum of 5/8-inch (16 mm). Move the hose and clip as necessary to obtain required clearance and tighten the clip attaching screw.
