NEW PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING TRANSFER CASE FLUID LEVEL
Information
A new procedure for checking transfer case fluid levels in all Eagle/Jeep models has been developed.
With the new procedure, transfer case fluid level is checked after performing the complete road test outlined in Section E. This ensures a thorough distribution of fluid throughout the entire transfer case after initial fill, and will result in a more accurate fluid level.
The new procedure replaces the fluid level check outlined in step 5 on page 14 of your P.D.I. manual. Do not use the earlier procedure. It is inaccurate and may result in a short fill condition. Check fluid levels only as outlined in the following new procedure.
Procedure
^ After road test, raise vehicle, remove fill plug and top off transfer case fill plug hole. Tighten fill plug to 34 N-m (25 ft.lbs.) torque.
