Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

Fig. 9 Rocker Arms & Shaft:

1. Remove cylinder head.
2. Remove camshaft thrust plate (A), Fig. 9.
3. Remove end plug (B) and filter (C) from rocker shaft, Fig. 9.
4. Remove No. 1 rocker shaft bearing housing (D), Fig. 9.
5. Remove retaining pin (E), then remove No. 5 rocker shaft bearing housing (F), Fig. 9.
6. Remove remaining rocker arms and bearing housings.
7. Reverse procedure to install. It should be noted that rocker shaft bearing housings Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 are identical. The No. 5 rocker shaft bearing housing has two threaded bore for the camshaft thrust plate and a bore for the retaining pin. When installing rocker arm components, ensure pin is properly seated in No. 5 bearing housing. Intake and exhaust rocker arms are identical.
