Installation
Special Tools:
1. Position the engine-to-transmission spacer plate.
2. Install the flywheel.
3. Position the engine on the subframe and transmission assembly.
4. Install the bolts.
5. Install the bolts.
6. Install the six bell housing bolts.
7. Install the transmission filler tube.
- Install the tube.
- Install the bolt.
8. Install the bolt.
9. Install the four torque converter nuts.
10. Remove the special tools.
11. Install the starter motor.
12. Connect the connector.
13. Position the wiring harness.
- Position the harness.
- Install the pin-type retainer.
14. Connect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
15. Connect the transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
16. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.
17. Position the wiring harness.
- Install the pin-type retainer.
18. Connect the power steering hose.
19. Connect the power steering hose.
20. Using the special tool, raise the engine, transmission, and subframe assembly.
21. Install the four subframe bolts.
22. Position the cooler hose.
23. Position the cooler hose.
24. Connect the power steering oil cooler hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
25. Connect the power steering oil cooler hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
26. Install the dual converter Y-pipe.
27. Connect the lower radiator hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
28. Connect the wire harness ground.
- Position the ground connector.
- Position the bracket.
- Install the nut.
29. Connect the starter motor.
30. Install the RH and LH front stabilizer bar link.
- Position the stabilizer bar link.
- Install the two nuts.
31. Install the RH and LH front wheel knuckles.
- Slide the knuckle onto the front struts.
- Install the bolt.
32. Install the ABS wire harness.
33. Connect the electrical connector.
34. Install the brake calipers.
35. Install the front wheels.
36. Lower the vehicle.
37. Install the harness retainer.
38. Connect the powertrain control module (PCM) 104-pin electrical connector.
- Connect the connector.
- Tighten the bolt.
39. Connect the wiring harness ground.
- Position the ground connector.
- Install the bolt.
40. Connect the vacuum tube.
41. Reconnect the transmission oil cooler lines.
42. Reconnect the fuel lines.
43. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum tube.
44. Install the fuel line retaining clips.
45. Connect the hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
46. Connect the evaporative emission return tube.
47. Connect the steering column intermediate shaft coupling.
- Slide the coupling onto the steering gear.
- Install the bolt.
48. Install the steering column opening weather seal.
49. Position the transmission shift control cable.
- Position the cable.
- Install the retainer.
50. Connect the transmission shift control cable.
51. Connect the evaporative emission purge valve.
52. Connect the 42-pin connector.
- Connect the connector.
- Tighten the bolt.
53. Connect the vacuum hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
54. Connect the heater hose.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the c lamp.
55. Install the accelerator cable.
- Position the accelerator cable bracket.
- Install the bolts.
- Connect the accelerator retracting spring.
- Connect the speed control cable.
- Connect the accelerator cable.
56. Connect the A/C suction and discharge manifold and tube assembly.
57. Connect the heater hoses.
- Connect the hoses.
- Reposition the clamps.
58. Connect the upper radiator hoses.
- Connect the hose.
- Reposition the clamp.
59. Install the wire harness.
- Position the harness.
- Install the retainers.
60. Connect the generator.
61. Install the engine air cleaner (ACL) and the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
62. Install the cowl.
63. Connect the battery ground cable.
64. Fill the engine with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
65. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
66. Charge the A/C system.
67. Inspect the engine and cooling system for leaks.
