Exhaust Gas Recirculation Solenoid Vacuum Valve:

PURPOSE
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Solenoid Vacuum Valve is a normally closed solenoid that controls EGR valve vacuum apply.

LOCATION
Engine compartment, left side cowl panel.

OPERATION
During engine operation, vacuum is applied to the EGR through the backpressure variable transducer. When EGR flow is not required, the ECA signals the solenoid valve. This switches the valve open, venting vacuum from the backpressure variable transducer to the atmosphere through an air filter mounted on the solenoid valve. The EGR valve then closes.
