Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION - This vehicle can be equipped with an optional 4-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) which:
- Prevents wheel lockup by automatically modulating the brake pressure during an emergency stop.
- Will allow the driver to maintain steering control and stop in short distances by not locking the wheels.
- Activates with varying brake pedal force to engage the ABS function depending on the road surface conditions. A dry surface requires a higher force, while a slippery surface requires much less force.

OPERATION
- The driver will sense a pulsation in the brake pedal during the ABS operation.
- The pedal effort and pedal feel during normal braking are similar to that of a conventional power brake system.

COMPONENTS - The ABS system consists of the following components:
- Power brake booster and brake master cylinder assembly
- Hydraulic control unit
- Anti-lock brake control module
- Front brake anti-lock sensors/rear brake anti-lock sensors
