Steering Column: Testing and Inspection

Check for side play of the steering column in the steering column bearing at the steering wheel end of the column. Any detectable side play can adversely affect steering control. If in excess of 0.75 mm (0.03 inch), serious bearing wear is indicated and the steering column assembly should be replaced.
