CAUTION:- If the air is not purged from the power steering correctly, a second customer concern or power steering pump failure can result.
- A whining noise heard from the power steering pump can be caused by air in the system.
- The following service procedure must be performed whenever any of the following services are performed:
- All power steering noise complaints with evidence of aerated fluid, prior to any component service.
- Replacement of any power steering system component.
1. Check the power steering fluid level. Add fluid to the power steering pump reservoir if the level is below the full (F) mark.
- Use Motorcraft Mercon Multi-Purpose ATF XT-2-QDX or MERCON equivalent.
2. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector(s).

CAUTION:
- Do not crank the engine for more than 15 seconds at a time. Allow the starter to cool for 1 minute before cranking again. Premature starter failure can occur.
- Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops for more than three to five seconds at a time. Damage to the power steering pump will occur.
