Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWWhen performing this recall procedure, you will:
^ remove the speed control servo from the vehicle.
^ inspect the speed control servo for rust and corrosion.
^ replace the speed control cable and, if required, the speed control servo assembly.
1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
2. Disconnect the speed control cable from the throttle body and detach the cable from the throttle body bracket. See Figure 1.
3. Disconnect the canister purge outlet tube and move it out of the way. See Figure 1.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speed control servo. See Figure 2.
5. Remove the three (3) speed control servo retaining nuts. See Figure 2.
SPEED CONTROL SERVO REMOVAL
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
7. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir retaining screws and move the reservoir aside.
8. Remove the servo and place the servo on a bench.
SPEED CONTROL SERVO INSPECTION
1. Remove the four (4) speed control amplifier retaining screws. See Figure 3.
2. Carefully remove the amplifier from the speed control servo and inspect the servo for rust and corrosion.
3. If rust or corrosion is present, replace the servo and the cable. To install the new cable onto the new servo, refer to Speed Control Cable Replacement Step 3.
4. Replace only the cable if rust and corrosion are NOT present. Refer to Speed Control Cable Replacement.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use power tools to install the speed control amplifier retaining screws. Hand-tighten screws only.
5. Carefully install the amplifier to the servo. Install the amplifier retaining screws and tighten by hand only. See Figure 4.
SPEED CONTROL CABLE REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the speed control cable cover from the speed control servo. See Figure 5.
a. Press the cover locking arm.
b. Rotate the cover counterclockwise
c. Lift up on the cover.
2. Remove the speed control cable from the pulley by pushing the cable out of the pulley. See Figure 6.
3. Insert the new cable end into the pulley and pull the cable to lock it into position.
4. Align the cable cover tabs with the slots in the servo housing. Insert the cover into the servo, then push down and rotate clockwise until the locking arm engages.
SPEED CONTROL SERVO INSTALLATION
1. Install the speed control servo in the vehicle. Tighten the nuts 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
2. Install the brake master cylinder reservoir. Tighten the retaining screws to 4 Nm (35 lb-in).
3. Connect the brake master cylinder reservoir electrical connector.
4. Connect the electrical connector to the servo.
5. Connect the canister purge outlet tube.
6. Attach the speed control cable to the throttle body bracket and connect the speed control cable to the throttle body.
7. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
