Canister Purge Control Valve: Testing and Inspection

Cold Engine

NOTE: Engine coolant temperature must be below thermovalve "B" set temperature.

Fig.45 - Purge Control Diaphragm Valve Check:

1. Disconnect upper hose at purge control diaphragm valve and connect vacuum gauge to hose, Fig. 45.

2. Start engine and allow it to idle. If there is vacuum, check thermovalve "B". If not, disconnect vacuum gauge and reconnect hose.

Hot Engine

1. Disconnect upper hose at purge control diaphragm valve and connect vacuum gauge to hose, Fig. 45, then wait for engine to reach operating temperature.

2. If there is no vacuum at idle once engine is warm, check thermovalve "B" by pinching the hose to air filter. If vacuum is now available to canister, replace thermovalve "B". If not, check hoses #7 and #19, Figs. 29 & 30, for blockage or leaks. If there is no vacuum at idle, disconnect vacuum gauge and reconnect hose.
