Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Adjustments

Adjustment conditions:
Engine coolant temperature, 176°F to 203°F.
Engine lubricant temperature, over 176°F.
Lights, electric cooling fan and all accessories, OFF.
Transmission, in neutral ("P" or "N" range for A/T vehicles).
Steering wheel, in the straight forward position (Vehicles with power steering).

Accelerator Cable Adjustment:

1. Loosen the accelerator cable.

Hyundai Multi-use Tester:

2. Connect the hyundai multi-use tester to the diagnosis connector.

Trottle Position Sensor (TPS) Connector Location:

TPS Output Test Hook-up:

3. If the hyundai multi-use tester is not used install a tachometer, and connect a digital type voltmeter between terminals 2 and 4 of the throttle position sensor (or terminals #1 and 20 of the C02-1 ECU connector).
Do not disconnect the TPS connector from the throttle body.

Tachometer Hook-up:

NOTE: Insert a paper clip, from the harness side, into the connector between the primary side of the ignition coil and the noise filter. Connect the tachometer to the paper clip.

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not start the engine) and check that the TPS output voltage is within specifications.
Standard value
TPS Output..........0.48-0.52V

5. If the output is not within specification, loosen both the TPS mounting bolts and adjust by turning the TPS. Tighten the bolts securely after adjustment.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Start the engine and check to be sure that the idle speed is correct.
Standard value
Curb Idle..........700 ± 100rpm

8. Turn OFF the ignition switch and disconnect the battery terminal for 15 seconds or more and then reconnect. (This erases the data stored in ECU memory during the TPS adjustment).
