UPDATE PRIOR TO SALE: Rear Differential Contamination





AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

As previously communicated in Service Administration Bulletin 3-248NAS, a number of rear differentials have been incorrectly supplied which may lead to premature wear of the differential pinion head and tail carrier bearings, resulting in an unacceptable differential noise and driveline vibration.

Action:

Dealers are required to HOLD the affected vehicles within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for onward distribution and sale pending completion of the rework action detailed in this Update Prior to Sale notice. These vehicles must not be released until replacement of the rear differential is completed. Any vehicle already delivered to a customer must be updated at the next service opportunity.

NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:

CAUTION:
Ensure one new half-shaft retaining clip (XR8 11133) is installed on each half-shaft.

NOTE:
New differentials are supplied filled with oil.

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) Section 205-02: Rear Drive Axle / Differential (51.25.13) to replace the rear differential.
