Recent warranty statistics show an increase in battery replacements. We need your help to learn more about the situation. The attached Battery/Charging System Check Procedure should be used before replacing a battery.

In order to properly check the battery and charging system, you will need the following:

^ Temperature compensated battery hydrometer

^ SUN VAT 40 (or equivalent) charging/starting system tester

Please contact Jim Davis at 1-800-622-0266 whenever a battery replacement is needed. Alternatively, send a Product Report marked "Battery Survey".

BATTERY TEST PROCEDURE

^ Inspect battery for low electrolyte level, corroded or loose terminals and case leakage.

Replace if: Case is damaged or terminal posts are loose

Correct: Low electrolyte level with distilled water Clean terminals if required

^ Test each cell with a temperature corrected hydrometer.

Replace if: Cells vary 0.050 or more (Highest to Lowest)

Recharge if: Specific gravity is less than 1.260

^ Load test battery at 210 amps for 15 seconds (specific gravity at least 1.260).

Replace if: Voltage is less than 9.6 after 15 seconds

If battery needs replacement or is found low on charge, perform a Charging System Check/Alternator Test Please follow steps 1-10 in the Workshop Manual, Section 86, page 11.
