Vehicles Involved

Certain 1987 Lincoln Town Cars built at the Wixom Assembly Plant from Job #1 (August 4, 1986) through September 26, 1986.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DEFECT:

Ford Motor Company has determined that some of the subject vehicles may have been produced with misrouted wiring harnesses in the engine compartment. There is a potential for the wiring to be damaged, which may result in a short circuit and possibly a vehicle fire. The potential for a fire exists both during vehicle use and when the vehicle is parked with the key removed.

Ford is recalling these cars to correct this condition. It will be necessary to inspect the vehicles for proper routing of certain wiring harnesses and to modify them as necessary.

IMPORTANT

DO NOT DEMONSTRATE, PLACE INTO SERVICE OR DELIVER ANY OF THESE VEHICLES UNTIL THE REPAIR PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. FOR SUSPECT VEHICLES THAT MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN DELIVERED TO OWNERS, YOU ARE TO CONTACT THE OWNERS AND ARRANGE TO COMPLETE THIS RECALL ON THEIR VEHICLES.
