Radio/Stereo: Description and Operation

With the Ignition Switch in ACC or RUN, voltage is applied through Fuse 11 to operate the Radio and the Power Antenna Switch.

Fuse 8 applies voltage to the Radio, at all times, through the 54 (LG/Y) wire to power the memory-related functions, which retain the Radio's memory when the Radio is turned off.

The display's brightness is controlled by the Instrument Panel Illumination Dimming Control. When the Park Lamps or Headlamps are turned on, battery voltage is applied to the Radio through the 88 (BK/W) wire and the display dims. When the Park Lamps are turned off, voltage is not longer applied to the Radio, and the display brightens.

JBL/Premium Sound

The Premium Sound System feature incorporates a Radio with cassette deck and a four channel Amplifier. Voltage is applied to the Radio Amplifier through the 37 (Y) wire when the Radio is turned on. The Amplifier is grounded through the Radio and 694 (BK/LG) wire. The Radio provides an audio signal for each channel through the 277 (LB/BK), 278 (P/W), 279 (W/R), and 280 (LG) circuits. The Radio Amplifier processes he audio signal provided by the Radio and supplies it to the individual speakers.
