Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation
CAUTION: Do not use scraps, sharp instruments or abrasive cleaners on the interior surface of the rear window as this may damage the rear window defrost grid lines.
With the Ignition Switch in RUN, the Rear Window Defrost Control is powered through Fuse 5.
Pressing the momentary defrost switch closes the contacts of the defrost relay and starts the ten minute (approximate) timing cycle. Current now flows to the Rear Window Defrost Grid, the Left Power Mirror Heater and the Right Power Mirror Heater. When the defrost switch is relased, the solid-state circuitry keeps the defrost relay coil energized.
Pressing the defrost switch again turns off the defrost relay and removes power from the defrost grid circuit. If the defrost switch is not pressed again, power will remain on until the time delay runs out. Then the defrost relay's contacts will open and remove power from the defrost grid circuit.
