FUEL SYSTEM - FUEL SPIT - BACK WHEN FILLING FUEL TANK - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 9/30/93

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993-94 MARK VIII

ISSUE:
A fuel spit-back condition may be experienced when refueling the vehicle. This occurs because the fuel tank filler pipe does not have a flapper valve to prevent fuel spit back.

ACTION:
Install a new fuel tank filler pipe which includes a new flapper valve to prevent fuel spit-back. Refer to the following procedure for service details.





1. Remove and replace the fuel tank filler pipe (F3LY-9034-B). See Figure 1.

2. Remove and replace the fuel tank to filler pipe hose (F3LY-9047-B), Figure 1.

3. Install new clamp (N807955-S) on upper end of filler pipe hose.

NOTE:
REFER TO TSB 93-18B FOR CORRECT FUEL TANK DRAIN AND FILL PROCEDURE IF REQUIRED.
