Disassembly and Reassembly


DISASSEMBLY

1. Disconnect vacuum tube from air horn, then remove return spring, accelerating pump connecting rod and arm.
2. Disconnect choke rod then remove air horn, automatic choke and gasket and fuel inlet fitting.
3. Separate air horn and automatic choke assembly from main body, then disconnect choke diaphragm rod from choke lever. Mark position of bi-metal cover, then remove choke heater attaching screws and the choke heater, choke diaphragm and braket assembly.
4. Remove float, pin and gasket, then the needle valve assembly.
5. Remove accelerating pump plunger assembly and retaining clip.
6. Invert main body, then remove strainer and accelerating pump inlet check ball, check valve plug and washer.
7. Remove accelerating pump outlet check ball and spring, then the slow fuel cut solenoid valve and gasket.
8. Disconnect throttle link and vacuum diaphragm connecting rod, then remove diaphragm screws, gasket and main body.
9. Remove air bleeds and jets, noting size of each so they may be installed in their original positions.
10. Remove throttle hanger, if equipped, from throttle body.

NOTE: Do not remove throttle valve and shaft, the venturi or choke valve and shaft.

11. Remove mixture adjustment screw by turning and pulling out entire shell or by cutting shell of with a suitable saw. A new screw, spring and shell must be installed during assembly.

REASSEMBLY

To assemble carburetor, reverse disassembly procedure, noting the following:
1. Discard all old gaskets and replace with new ones.
2. Ensure all components are clean and in good condition.
3. Ensure all components are installed in corresponding barrels and are not intermixed.
4. When installing mixture adjusting screw, bottom screw, then back off 3 or 4 turns and install shell, if equipped. Do not install blind cap or spring until carburetor is installed and idle mixture properly adjusted.
