DESCRIPTION

The speedometer cable was incorrectly routed on some early production 323 vehicles, resulting in some speedometer cables being damaged or broken.

The routing of the speedometer cable has been changed since the production of March 13, 1986. For vehicles produced prior to March 13, 1986, you are requested to inspect the routing of the speedometer cable at PDI or during routine service and modify as shown on page 2.

In addition, whenever replacing the battery or speedometer cable, make sure that the speedometer cable is correctly routed.

REROUTE THE CABLE:

INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Inspect the lower speedometer cable. If the cable is routed below the battery tray, reroute the cable above the battery tray as shown.

SPEEDOMETER CABLE FITTING TO THE TRANSMISSION:

2. Inspect the lower end of the speedometer cable at the fitting to the transmission. If the cable is kinked or bent severely as shown, replace the lower speedometer cable.
