EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

EGR Control System:

PURPOSE
Valves provide for ECU regulation of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

LOCATION
Below intake plenum near center of engine.

OPERATION

EGR Operating Conditions:

These are duty valves, enabling the ECU to make continuous EGR adjustments as required under a wide range of operating conditions. The ECU calculates inputs from these sensors to determine EGR solenoid valve operation: air flow meter, EGR position sensor, water thermosensor, throttle sensor, and crank angle sensor 2. To improve driveability, EGR operation is canceled below coolant temperature of 167°F (75°C). Warm engine operation is as described on the image chart.
