APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1995 Protege vehicles with a VIN of JM1BA14**S0999999 and lower.
DESCRIPTION
A cracking noise from the "B" pillar may be noticed when accelerating and braking. This noise may be caused by a lack of lubricant on the door lock mechanism. Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and repaired, if necessary.
NOTE:
This concern does not affect the operation of the vehicle's locking system.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Rotate the fork on the affected door to a locked position.
NOTE:
Slide block and spring should be visible.
2. Apply spray grease to the slide block spring.
3. Pull the inner handle to return the fork to its original position.
4. Push the slide block back and apply spray grease to the open area.
5. Verify the repair.
^ If the noise is not heard, return to customer.
^ If the noise is still present, loosen the door lock striker bolts and adjust the striker according to the instructions in section 5 of the workshop manual. Refer to Fig. 2.

My recommendation was 0.3 or 0.4 for the entire vehicle. As it stands, the dealer can claim 0.2 per door (0.8 per vehicle).
