DAMP CARPET ON PASSENGER SIDE WHEN OPERATING A/C

NOTE:
This bulletin replaces the previously released bulletin (Cat. U, 008/96).

DESCRIPTION

When operating the A/C system while driving, the passenger side carpet (foot well area) may become damp. This moisture may be caused by:

^ Poor sealing at the drain hose grommet

^ Blocked or missing drain hose

^ Poor seal at the brake line retainer clip

Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary repaired according to this bulletin.

INSPECTION / REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Confirm that the drain hose grommet is properly installed.

^ If the grommet is in place, proceed to step 2.

^ If the grommet is not present, install a new grommet and verify repair.

NOTE:
The grommet position can be confirmed from the engine compartment.

2. Insert a small diameter rod (7-8 inches in length) into the drain hose to check for blockage.

^ If there is no blockage, proceed to step 3.

^ If there is blockage, remove the cooling unit and inspect the drain hole.

a) If there is no drain hole, replace the cooling unit lower case.

b) If there is blockage, remove the foreign material from the cooling unit, blower fan and cowl area.

NOTE:
If the vehicle's VIN is below JM1BA****S0147377 seal the cowl grill side hole according to the instructions in S/B, Cat. S, No. 008/95. If the procedure is not performed, this concern will occur repeatedly.

3. Inspect the retaining clip on the brake line pipe for sealer. This clip is located just below the drain hose.
^ If the water is coming from the clip, seal the area according to the instructions in "A/C Drain Pipe" (M-Tips, July 1995).
