NOISE WHEN OPENING POWER WINDOW

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS

All 1995 Protege vehicles with a VIN of JM1BA***S0130753 and lower.

DESCRIPTION

A chatter noise may occur when opening the front door glass from a fully closed position. This noise is caused by the power window regulator outer cable.

The quality control of power window components has improved to correct this problem.

Customers that complain of this noise should have the problem verified and repaired according to this bulletin.

NOTE:
It is not necessary to replace the power window regulator and/or cable to eliminate this noise.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the noise and location after opening the window from a fully closed position.

^ If the noise occurs when opening the window, proceed to step 2.

^ If the noise does not occur, refer to the NVH or Workshop manual for troubleshooting procedures.

2. Remove door trim and door screen according to section S of the workshop manual.

3. Close window fully.





4. Drill a small (3-4 mm) hole in the door inner metal panel as shown.

CAUTION:
Do not damage window or outer door skin when drilling the hole. Use a drill stop on the drill bit if necessary.

5. Remove metal debris from the drilling.

6. Apply touch-up paint to the diameter of the hole to prevent rusting.

7. Wrap the outer regulator cable with vinyl tape (at least 5 or 6 times) as shown.

8. Route a piece of mechanic's wire through the hole and around the cable.

9. Pull the regulator cable to the dimension shown and tie off the wire.

NOTE:
Do not pull the outer cable more than 12 mm from the original position

10. Assemble door and verify the repair.
