BUMP NOISE WHEN OPENING SUNROOF

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
1995 Protege vehicles with a sunroof and a VIN of JM1BA14**S0111807 and lower.





DESCRIPTION

When opening the sunroof from a closed position, the glass panel and roof panel may interfere. This interference may cause a bump noise and results from insufficient clearance at the front of the sunroof.

Adjustments in the clearance specifications have eliminated this problem during installation. Customers complaining about this noise should have the sunroof adjusted to clearance specification. Use the instructions below and in the workshop manual (pages S1-76 and S1-80) to adjust the sunroof.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the complaint.

2. Remove the lower panel cover according to the instructions on pages S1-76 of the workshop manual.





3. Open the glass panel half way.

4. Remove the weather strip at the measuring points.

NOTE:
Remove the weather strip in the direction of the arrow.

5. Fully close glass panel without pinching the removed weather strip.

6. Using a caliper, measure the clearance at positions 1 and 2. Refer to page S1-80 of the workshop manual for measuring procedures.

7. Adjust the panel on both ends to ensure it remains parallel to the sunroof opening.

CAUTION:
^ If the sunroof is not parallel to the opening, the sunroof will bind during operation.

^ Improper adjustment may result in a bump noise or water leakage.

8. Verify repair.
