NOISE FROM REAR BRAKE DRUM
AFFECTED MODELS
All 1995 Protege with a VIN of JM1BA****S0181248 and lower.
DESCRIPTION
When applying the brakes, a noise may be heard from the rear brake area. Modified parts are available to reduce this noise. Modifications include:
^ Brake shoe material has changed.
^ The friction resistance of the brake drum has been increased.
^ The slide resistance of the parking brake has been decreased to improve parking brake performance.
Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, the brakes replaced with new parts.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the complaint.
^ If the noise is coming from the rear brakes, replace the rear shoes, drums and parking brake cables with modified parts.
^ If the noise is not coming from the rear brakes, refer to the workshop manual or NVH manual for trouble-shooting and repair information.
