Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service Precautions

Disassembly precaution
- Clean the transmission exterior thoroughly using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent before disassembly.
- Work in a dust proof room to prevent dust from entering the transmission.

Warning: Using compressed air can cause dirt and other particles to fly out, causing injury to the eyes. Wear protective eye wear whenever using compressed air.

- Clean the removed parts using cleaning solvent, and dry them using compressed air.
- Clean out the oil holes and passages using compressed air, and verify that they are not clogged.
- Use a plastic hammer when disassembling the housing and other light alloy metal parts.
- Arrange and store the disassembled parts and protect from the dust.
- Secure the parts through the aluminum sheet to prevent damage to the parts when using a vise.
- Disassemble the parts while inspecting for damage, deficient parts, deformation, flaws, and proper fit.

Assembly precaution
- Verify that all parts are completely clean and dry before assembly.
- Coat all movable parts and friction surfaces with the specified oil.

Caution: Parts such as gaskets, oil seals, and spring pins must be replaced whenever the transmission is disassembled. Failure to do so may result In oil leakage and improper installation.

- Remove old sealant from contact surfaces before applying new sealant.
- Assemble the transmission case within 10 minutes after applying sealant.
- Allow all sealant to cure at least 30 minutes after assembly before filling the transmission with transmission oil.
- Secure the parts through the aluminum sheet to prevent damage to the parts when using a vise.
