PURPOSE
Results of recent EPA audits indicate that some dealers may have incorrectly completed the August 1988 Emissions Recall described in TSB-88-14-004. In an effort to assure that Mitsubishi fully conforms to the emissions regulations, a confirmatory inspection service for repair work of the vehicles previously reported repaired has been launched. A letter has been sent to the affected vehicle owners instructing them to return to their Mitsubishi dealer in order to have their vehicle inspected and repaired as required. A copy of the customer notification letter appears on page 12 (image). To achieve the desired results, it is important that the procedure be followed EXACTLY as described in this bulletin. IMPORTANT
Failure to perform all Recall procedures completely and accurately may lead to emissions non-compliance. Further, the EPA considers failure to properly perform emission recall procedures as tampering, which may subject the servicing dealer to a fine of up to $10,000 per vehicle.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This procedure applies to 1985 Federal 1.5L Mirage (non-turbo only) models with manual or automatic transaxle without limitation as to mileage. It does not apply to any other models.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
The operations require inspection prior to any further operations being performed. If the inspection shows that the previous repairs were inadequate then follow the procedures stated in the repair section of this bulletin. On page 2 of this bulletin is a flow chart which shows the general description of the required operations (image).
The "Required Operations" MUST be performed on all Affected Vehicles as described earlier. These "required operations" are as follows:
INSPECTION:
1. Verify that the battery back-up circuit wire at the Feedback Control Unit has been cut and taped.
2. Verify the installation of the correct vacuum hose routing modification label.
3. Verify the correct vacuum hose routing at the secondary air induction valve.
4. Using a light and a mirror, visually inspect the choke adjusting shim installation.
5. Check proper operation of the sub-EGR valve.

PARTS INFORMATION
The parts used in this recall have been in open supply for many months. Most dealers will find that they already have a supply. In the event parts are needed, they should be ordered on an AS REQUIRED BASIS from your facing Parts Distribution Center. The part number is MD141742.

Reimbursement for performing the inspection and if necessary the repairs must be claimed by submitting a RECALL CLAIM (Claim type "C") through the Diamond Network Warranty System menu option "E-5". DO NOT SUBMIT AS "W" CLAIMS.
