Cylinder Head & Valves, Replace

1. Open service valves and ensure that compressor is free of pressure.
2. Remove head bolts.
3. Remove valve plate and head from cylinder by prying or tapping under tabs that extend from valve plate. If head and valve plate stick, hold head and tap valve plate tabs away from head with suitable hammer.
4. Remove gasket, being careful not to damage sealing surface.
5. When replacing valves or valve plates, replace as an assembly.
6. Apply thin film of refrigerant oil to compressor/cylinder gasket contact surface.
7. Position gasket so that dowel pins go through holes in gasket.
8. Apply thin film of clean refrigerant oil to gasket contact surfaces on top and bottom valve plates.
9. Position valve plate on cylinder gasket, discharge valve assemblies facing up, so that dowel pins go through holes in valve plate.
10. Position head gasket so that dowel pins go through holes on gasket.
11. Apply a thin film of clean refrigerant oil on cylinder head/head gasket mating surface.
12. Position head on cylinder head gasket so that dowel pins go through holes in head.
13. Install head screws and torque to 15-23 ft. lbs.
