Subject: Emissions Recall # 473 -- Inspection/Correction of Vehicles
Previously Serviced for Recall # 419 (Choke and Secondary Air Adjustment)

Models: 1984 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Equipped With 1.4L Federal Engine -- California Engines are Not Affected


The listed vehicles previously serviced for recall # 419 must be inspected to ensure that the service was performed as instructed. If any steps were not completed properly, they must be corrected at this time. In addition, the Sub-EGR valve must be adjusted.

This action is required as a result of an audit conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was found that in some cases the prior recall service was not correctly performed.

Important: The EPA may again audit vehicles serviced for this inspection/correction program. It is imperative to ensure that each step is performed as instructed. Failure to do so will be considered by the EPA to be a violation, subjecting affected dealers to possible civil penalties by the agency.

A copy of a special T.R. Cunningham letter addressing the importance of properly performing the recall service is enclosed. It was originally sent to all Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth dealers in May, 1989.
