Engine Removal and Installation


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner, inlet hose and mass air flow sensor.
3. Drain cooling system, then remove exhaust manifold/crossover assembly, if equipped.
4. Remove serpentine, belt tensioner and belt.
5. Loosen power steering pump attaching bolts, then position pump aside.
6. Remove idler, if equipped, then disconnect radiator hose at engine.
7. Disconnect accelerator and throttle valve cables at throttle valve bracket.
8. Remove alternator attaching bolts, then position aside.
9. Remove engine wiring harness, then disconnect fuel hoses.
10. Remove coolant bypass and overflow hoses at engine, then disconnect necessary vacuum hoses.
11. Support engine using a suitable holding fixture, then raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove right inner fender splash shield, then the harmonic dampener.
13. Remove flywheel cover, then the starter attaching bolts.
14. Disconnect electrical wires at starter, then remove starter.
15. Disconnect wires at oil sending unit, then remove a/c compressor and attaching bracket.
16. Remove exhaust pipe at rear of manifold, then the flywheel to torque converter attaching bolts.
17. Remove front and rear motor mount attaching bolts, then the front and rear mount brackets.
18. Remove intermediate shaft bracket at engine, then disconnect shift cable bracket at transaxle.
19. Remove lower bell housing attaching bolts, then lower vehicle.
20. Remove heater hoses at engine, then attach a suitable engine lifting device to engine.
21. Remove engine holding fixture, then support transaxle with a suitable jack.
22. Remove upper bellhousing attaching bolts, then remove front mount bolts.
23. Remove transaxle mount bracket.
24. Remove engine and transaxle as an assembly.
