Campaign Code:

Number

July 17, 1985
This is to notify you of a pre-delivery/recall campaign involving 1985 model Porsche 928S. Due to a welding problem by the supplier of the engine carrier, the support bracket eyes could separate from the carrier. If this occurs, there would be no impairment of the steering mechanism or roadability of the car. However, this condition could weaken the engine carrier and, with higher mileage accumulation the engine carrier could break without warning resulting in a steering blockage.

Only 162 vehicles for the United States are involved and fall within the following vehicle identification ranges:

WPOJBO92-FS861480 to

WPOJBO92-FS861705

A list of the VINs of the 162 affected vehicles is attached.

This will serve as notice to you that the 162 vehicles on the attached list are subject to a pre-delivery campaign and must, therefore, be corrected prior to sale. Section 108 of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act prohibits the sale of a new motor vehicle if the selling dealer is aware of the defect and sells the vehicle although it does not comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Consequently, should you sell any of the affected vehicles without first performing the campaign correction, your dealership may be subject to a civil penalty of up to $1,000 for each such sale.

Customer Notification

Porsche Cars North America will notify all known owners directly by first class mail on July 23, 1985, as per enclosed copy of notification.

For those vehicles which are in dealer's inventory or concerning which sales information is not on our files, the notification will be addressed to the dealer. If the vehicle is in stock, the campaign should be performed without delay. If the vehicle has been retailed or dealer swapped, the dealer is to make the necessary arrangements to have the customer or swapping dealer contacted and the campaign performed.
