Attention: This bulletin supercedes Group 1, Number 8501 issued January 14, 1985.
If low or no oil pressure is observed upon cold starting after the vehicle has been sitting (parked overnight, etc.), it is possible that air is being drawn into the lubrication system.
Air enters the system between the suction and pressure sections of the oil pump (black arrows). To Correct, perform the following procedure:
- remove oil pump
- remove rear cover of oil pump
- clean and dry pump thoroughly
- apply Locite (R) 574 to outside diameter of rear cover (black arrow)
- reassemble pump
- apply Locite (R) 574 to sealing surface of pump and reinstall pump to engine
Replace crankshaft oil seal part #999. 113.268.40 for 1983/84 cars and 999.113. 331.50 for 1985 cars, also the O-ring part #900.174.049.40.
Also, the oil pressure relief valve should be removed, and the bore and valve cleaned. Assure that the valves move freely in the bore and seats properly in the block.
If the above mentioned operations do not correct the problem, proceed as follows:
- remove oil pan
- remove lower crankcase half (bearing cradle)
- clean sealing surfaces
- reinstall lower crankcase half with Locite (R) 574
- reinstall oil pan
