General Information

This is to notify you of a voluntary Recall Campaign which involves 145 Porsche 928 S4 vehicles of the model year 1991.

In the automatic transmission housing, a filler piece is installed without proper support. Without adequate support, this filler piece can move and intermittently inhibit the automatic transmission kick-down function.

If in this situation, the accelerator pedal is pushed into the kick-down position, the expected acceleration of the vehicle may not be achieved since the transmission does not down shift. This could result in an accident during a vehicle passing maneuver.

A total of 145 cars fall within the scope of this recall. All potentially have the defect and will be recalled to have the filler piece in the automatic transmission replaced. The new filler piece has a securing brace to prevent movement which could affect the transmission operation.

The VIN range of the affected vehicles in the recall are:

Customer Notification

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. will notify all known owners of vehicles within the recall VIN ranges directly by first class mail during the week of August 24, 1992. See enclosed copy of the Recall Notification Card to the consumers. A listing of all vehicles with owners' names and addresses in your area, within the recall VIN ranges, will be sent to you shortly.

If a vehicle within the recall VIN ranges is in your dealership for service/repair or in dealer inventory, the Recall Campaign should be performed without delay.

If the vehicle has been retailed or dealer traded, the dealer is to make the necessary arrangements to have the customer or receiving dealer contacted and the Recall Campaign performed.
