Audio System - BOSE (R) System Sound Failure: Overview
29/04 ENU 9110 9PCM2.1 With BOSE Sound Package: Sound Failure

This Technical Information replaces the Technical Information dated July 5, 2005.
We have discovered that PCM2.1 Systems, for which customer complaints were received, are being returned under warranty without having undergone a complete software update - according to the manufacturer. Since the update could not therefore be completely saved for PCM, PCM cannot be used. Possible causes of an incomplete update:
- Voltage interruption or battery undervoltage (e.g. if a battery charger was/is not connected during the update procedure)
- A button was/is actuated on PCM during the update procedure
- Update CD was removed too soon from the CD slot
New or additional information has therefore been added to the Technical Information.

Concerns:
BOSE amplifier.
Situation:
- Sound failure in BOSE sound system.
- Modified BOSE amplifier software in MY 05 (as of date of introduction)
Note:
Either short-term or permanent sound failure (= no sound playback during radio, CD, telephone and navigation operation) can occur in the BOSE sound system on MY 05 vehicles with the equipment mentioned above, which was manufactured up to the specified dates of introduction.
In the event of a complaint, the BOSE amplifier software must first be updated to Model A software (software version 00016457) using the update CD "PCM2.1 BOSE Update CD Model A No. 000.043.205.50.001.
The PCM2.1 integrated system software must then be updated to Model A software (software version 4202xxx) using the update CD "PCM2.1 Update CD Model A", Part No. 000.043.205.47.003.
Vehicles with PCM2.1 navigation (I-no. 7Q2):
After updating the PCM2.1 integrated system to Model A software, only new navigation DVDs can be used (=> "Parts Info." section).
Date of Introduction:
New BOSE amplifier software on 03.11.2004 as of the VINs shown.

NOTE:
Show current software version of BOSE amplifier in PCM2.1 control module.
The current software version of the BOSE amplifier can be displayed in the PCM2.1 control module display.
Show current software version of BOSE amplifier:
switch on PCM2.1 if necessary by pressing the "ON/Off switch"(=> Figure 1 -item A-).
Then press the "MAIN" and "trip" buttons (=> Figure 1 -items E and F-) simultaneously to go to the "SW versions" display.
In the "SW versions" display, select the "Amplifier" menu item by turning the rotary knob (=> Figure 1 -item G-) and then press the rotary knob to confirm your selection.
The following software version will be displayed for the amplifier: 00012118.
This software version corresponds to the version used in MY 05 vehicles up to the date of introduction.
=> Perform the updated as described in the "procedure" section.
Press the back button (=> Figure 1 -item H-) to return to the PCM2.1 Start menu.
